The mewar Manuscript of Gajendra Moksha

The Gajendra Moksha (Salvation of Elephant Gajendra) is popular story which come from bhagavata purana (Skandha 8:2-4). the story describe how the mighty elephant caught by crocodile grah in lake, his family leave him and finally god Vishnu save him from grah. Vishnu also release both gaja-grah from curse.

Sahibdin is first painter who painted this series as part of Bhagavata purana during reign of Maharana jagatsingh. After time during reign of Maharana jaisingh (1680-98), this gajendra Moksha strotra was painted. we don't have inform about the artist but two painters are known, Mun and Allah Baksh (Ala Bagas). The scriber was probably Bhatt kishandas.

"Ganth 15" Means book 15 (Maximum 100 page in one Ganth). value of each painting write on text corner. Highest prize is 8 rupees painting no. 9. Total prize is 67 rupees.

1 : In present painting, Sukdev narrates story of gajendra to king parikshit. sukdev pay homage to vyasa and other sages and then he said about mountain trikuta where deva, gandharva and apsara lives. he also said that they are many animals like tiger, boar, deer and lion. (2.1•6)

2 : Description of Trikuta mountain which has three shringa made by gold, silver and padmarag where sun and moon lives. This mountain also has pond. (2.7-19)

3 : on this mountain, only good and virtual people can stay. On same mountain many elephants also lives. (2.20)

4 : even lion has fear to confront this gajendra. (2.21•24)

5 : Gajendra enjoy the company of his family at pond. (2.25•26)

6 : But suddenly Grah attack on gajendra and caught his legs. (2.27)

7 : Gajendra and grah fight thousand year with each other. (2.28•29)

8 : The family of Gajendra leave him. (2.30)

9 : Gajendra pay homage to krishna. (2.31)

10 :  Krishna come to rescue Gajendra. (3.30•31)

11 : krishna kill grab by his chairs and save Gajendra. (3.32•33)

12 : Huhu release from curse. (4.3)

15 : Agastya (here sage durvasa) cursed king indradhyumna to became elephant because he is busy in workshop of Vishnu.
